The holidays are here! If you are like me you have so much to do. Gifts, parties, charities, cooking, wrapping presents and on and on. Let’s stop all the craziness and just relax. Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy, celebration and giving. This does not mean we have to give of ourselves until we are stressed out.
The very first gift you can give is to yourself this Christmas. Make a plan to slow down this season and actually enjoy all that it has to offer. I have come to absolutely love Christmas. My family and I have created some fun traditions to help us enjoy Christmas even more.
One of my favorite traditions actually begins on Thanksgiving. I prepare a huge homemade meal and invite everyone over. I know this probably sounds like a lot of work for you and if everything made from scratch is not for you, then don’t do it. I love to cook and this is my time to have fun with it. After all the cooking I spend the rest of the day just enjoying the family.
The next day I am treated to breakfast out and from there we head out to a local Christmas tree farm. The kids, (now grandkids) run around for an hour or so picking out the perfect tree. Tree farms are great, there are usually many other activities for the kids also. The one that we visit has Santa, pony rides, petting farm, hat rides, you can even roast hot dogs over a fire. It makes for a fun day. Much better than fighting the crowd at the mall.
We then spend the rest of the weekend at home. The kids help decorate the tree and the house, we have plenty of leftovers for everyone, so no cooking. We usually end the weekend popping corn, making hot cocoa, and watching a movie. It has come to be a fun and yet relaxing way to start the holidays.
