Overwhelmingly the most popular ‘modern day’ Christmas collectibles fall into ‘types’, being:
CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
Christopher Radko’s ornaments are among the most collected of all Christmas designs on eBay and represent year round selling for some sellers. By their very nature, Radko’s ornaments are in limited supply, hence the constantly high prices achieved, which is also the case for fine, hand created seasonal ornaments from Precious Moments, Hummel and Hallmark.
Naturally, the older they are, the more likely some of the original production will have been broken or lost, and the more expensive the survivors become. You’ll also find some makers ‘retire’ their designs after a specified number and these are also among the highest priced items, on and off eBay, the lower production figures actually were and the longer it becomes since a product is retired.
For example, these are prices achieved recently on eBay for Christopher Radko retired design. They are not that old, about 15 years some of them, but selling prices are four times or more the original price.

SNOW COVERED COTTAGES
You’ll find lots of pretty hand-painted houses and cottages and even complete village scenes depicted on ornaments by famous makers like Hallmark, Precious Moments, PartyLite and Thomas Kinkade. By their nature, mostly hand painted or hand created, the most expensive types are limited edition and of year-round buying and selling interest on eBay. Department 56 creations are among the most popular villages selling on eBay.
Having said that, you’ll find lots of quality producers of similar type products all over the world, from where to locate items not currently being sold on eBay and aim to corner your own unique share of the market for Christmassy house and village models.
CHRISTMAS COLLECTOR PLATES
When Bing & Grondahl sold the first dated Christmas collector plate in 1895, they proved so popular that other well known china producers quickly followed. So today high prices fetched on eBay for plates from big name makers, like Royal Copenhagen, Rosenthal and Bareuther fetching big prices. Less famously and definitely much younger but just as popular and pricey, you’ll also find multiple bids and record prices fetched for limited edition Christmas plates made by Norman Rockwell and Avon.
Today a great many firms produce Christmas Collector Plates, some limited edition with eBay selling potential and good potential price growth, others cheap and chatty and limited in quantity only by the number of people prepared to buy stuff you’d do well to avoid. Instead, study Completed Auctions on eBay to determine the make, pattern and age of plates that fetch regularly high prices and may be worth picking up at auction or flea market.
MISCELLANEOUS
Christmas cards of which Victorian types are especially collectable, Christmas Tree pins (badges, usually hand painted, in limited edition, and featuring popular makers ‘Dinner at the Ritz’), imitation Christmas Trees, Christmas Figures and Figurines, Nativity Scenes, and more.
