Three hundred kilometers south of Beijing lies Hengshui, China. There is literally no other place like it in the entire world. It's known as the city of "Nei Art" -- the intricate art of painting glassware from the inside which began centuries ago, in China. It can take three or more years to learn this elusive art.
Highly skilled artists use a fine brush -- inserted through the top hole of a hand-blown glass bulb -- to outline, shade, and color the design. Each ornament typically takes several hours to complete. However, if the design is complex, it can take several days .
And, since they're painted exclusively from the inside, you can't touch the colors on the outside of the glassware.
All ornaments are painstakingly hand-painted by our in-house artists. And each individual ornament is unique... no two are ever exactly the same. The beautiful, hand-blown glass is extremely lustrous -- almost iridescent -- which brings out the color and brilliance of the design.
